We have lived in this area for many years now (although would not describe ourselves as 'local'!), and are delighted to help you make the most of your stay with us in the wonderful Wye Valley. We may not have large and whizzy attractions, but we do have great scenery, rural pursuits, relaxation, castles and some great individual attractions.
Ross-on-Wye, the only town situated within The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, became the birthplace of modern tourism when the Reverend Gilpin introduced the Wye Valley Tour - an excursion along the River Wye to scenic points to paint and sketch. It was a popular destination for British travellers from 1782 to around 1850, at its most popular during the Napoleonic Wars when travel (especially the Grand Tour) to Continental Europe was not an option.
It really is the gateway to the Wye Valley!
